Copyright & Content Removal
LookSnap respects copyright and acts on valid notices. Before sending one, it is worth knowing what this service actually holds — because in most cases the fastest fix is at the source rather than here.
What this service stores
LookSnap hosts no user uploads and maintains no media library. When you enter a username it requests the public page Snapchat publishes for that account and passes through what that page contains, with short-lived caching for performance.
That means the content originates from Snapchat and remains under the account holder’s control there. If the account removes the content or turns off its Public Profile, the source page stops existing and this service stops being able to show it — usually within minutes, and without any action needed from us.
This does not reduce our obligation to act on a valid notice. It does mean that removing content at the source is faster and more complete than removing it here.
The fastest route: remove it at the source
If the content is yours, three options resolve it everywhere at once rather than only on this site.
- Delete the Story, Spotlight clip or Highlight in Snapchat. It leaves the public page immediately.
- Turn off your Public Profile in Snapchat settings. The account stops having a page on the open web at all.
- If someone else posted your content, report it to Snapchat directly — they can remove the original, which no third party can do.
Sending a copyright notice
If you own the copyright in content shown through this service, or are authorised to act for the owner, send a written notice to [email protected] with the subject line "Copyright notice".
To be actionable, a notice should include the elements set out in 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3):
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed.
- Identification of the material you are asking to be removed, with enough detail to locate it — the Snapchat username and the specific post.
- Your contact details: address, telephone number and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act on the owner’s behalf.
Counter-notice and repeat infringers
If access to material was disabled and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, you may send a counter-notice containing your signature, identification of the material and its former location, a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief it was removed by mistake, your contact details, and your consent to jurisdiction as required by §512(g).
Knowingly misrepresenting that material is infringing — or that it was removed by mistake — carries liability for damages under §512(f). Please be sure before sending either.
We terminate access for repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances.
Non-copyright removal requests
Not every request is about copyright, and those still get acted on.
If you appear in content shown through this service and want it gone, if content depicts a minor, if it was published without consent, or if you are dealing with harassment or a safety concern, write to [email protected] with the subject line "Removal request" and describe what you need removed and why.
Requests involving a minor, non-consensual intimate imagery, or a credible safety risk are treated as urgent and do not require a formal copyright notice. Report them to Snapchat as well, since only Snapchat can remove the original.
